Experience Position Summary/Description:
The University of North Carolina Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, is seeking a fellowship-trained academic urogynecologist for a full-time, open rank position. This position is ideally suited to a junior to mid-level faculty member. This position will be clinically active and also have time devoted to research and education. We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic individual who has a reputation of outstanding clinical excellence, whose primary responsibility will be the expansion of clinical services. Clinical responsibilities will include the outpatient and surgical care of complex patients with pelvic floor disorders. Qualified applicants should have experience in the evaluation and management of pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, genitourinary fistulae, bladder pain syndrome, mesh complications, obstructed defecation, and fecal incontinence. Experience with office procedures is desired, including complex urodynamic studies, diagnostic and operative cystoscopy, urethral bulking injections, intravesicular botulinum toxin injections, sacral neuromodulation, and percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation. Requisite surgical skills include extensive experience with vaginal and robotic or laparoscopic repair of prolapse and urinary incontinence with and without the use of graft materials; repair of complex genitourinary fistulae; urethral diverticula, Gartner's duct cysts, Bartholin's gland removal, and removal of pelvic mesh. The appropriate candidate will be willing to engage in outreach efforts to attract patients with pelvic floor disorders to our centers. The University of North Carolina has rigorous academic standards for promotion and the candidate must demonstrate a track record of academic excellence and scholarship. The research responsibilities of this position include traditional scholarship that is required for academic promotion, including conducting and assisting in research projects, mentoring fellows and residents, and ideally experience with research funding. We also require a candidate with evidence of teaching excellence, as this position will involve the direct supervision and education of medical and physician assistant students, residents, and fellows. We wish to attract a candidate with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The UNC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is one of the top programs in the country, with more than 90 faculty in 10 different divisions and more than 50 residents and fellows. The department is widely recognized for its innovative clinical care, robust research portfolio, and outstanding residency and fellowship training programs.
