Videos Duties Help The VA Midwest Health Care Network advoces for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. As an employee opering in a Whole Health System of care, you will opere in a model with three core elements, seeking to cree a personalized health plan for each Veteran. This is done in the context of healing relionships and healing environments and a connection back to the Veteran's community. This aligns with the Veterans Health Administrion (VHA) Mission Stement to Honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care th improves their health and well-being.Duties include:
Manage scheduled and unscheduled pients in the outpient clinic setting. Primary providers in the outpient setting are typically assigned a panel of pients to manage. Panel size currently is determined by utilizingVHA PCMM
software. Panel size is determined the Nional level, through a complex formula which extracts local informion regarding the acuity of assigned pients, available support staff, and the number of exam rooms. Each provider's panel size is specific to their practice and setting. Alternive or colleral duties may include management of a subsection of primary care pients, the subsection may be defined either by a disease stus (e.g. spinal cord injury pients), or demographic stus (women veterans, OIF/OEF veterans, employees etc). Typically, these duties are designed the time of joining but occasionally during employment, participion in special projects pertinent to assigned section may be necessary as the projects become available through stregic or other initiives. Applying for and keeping inpient privileges active is optional for primary care providers. When on inpient duty, primary care provider is expected to participe in discharge planning and other interdisciplinary pient care plan activities. They must participe in sign-in and out rounds daily. During this time informion regarding pient stus should be discussed with the oncoming physician/MOD and ensure proper hand off the end of the shift. Physicians may be assigned duty as a supervising or collaboring physician for a mid-level provider. Physicians are expected to provide clinical oversight and review. Supervising or collaboring responsibilities and performance noted in the physician's performance evaluion. Most providers will need to act as surroges for the pients of their colleagues, when one or more of their colleagues are on leave. Each full-time provider is required to work a minimum of 80 hours per pay period (every two weeks) unless on leave stus. Compressed work schedule, four 10 hour work days available. All physicians need to follow departmental and VHA policies for leave and tendance and will work within Title 38 appointment guidelines. Currently VHA guidelines do not permit comp time or overtime pay for physicians. However, physicians who are asked to work outside their normal assigned tour of duty may request administrive leave for rest and relaxion. Leaves should be requested in as much advance as possible to minimize pient cancellions. Timely documention is necessary in all areas in accordance with departmental policy. All administrive work should be completed in a timely fashion. All physicians will meet the work relive value unit (RVU's) as determined by the nional office for primary care providers. United Stes Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of educion in medicine or osteophic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a Ste, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United Stes, or in the District of Columbia.Residency Training:
Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certificion. (NOTE:
VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty stus.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accredition Council for Gradue Medical Educion (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteophic Associion (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United Stes), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with approprie professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an approprie range of pient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled inACGME/AOA
accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rher, they are to have a "scope of practice" th allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English.Preferred Experience:
At least 5 years experience as a Primary Care Physician. Must be board certified or eligible in internal medicine or family medicine. Must have experience in women's health and provide women's health coverage.Reference:
