  • Omaha, Nebraska Cardiothoracic Surgery Opportunity (IMLC Welcome) Clinical Role Join a premier Level I Trauma Center providing comprehensive cardiothoracic surgical care.
This ongoing locums opportunity offers 24-hour call coverage in a high-acuity academic environment with experienced multidisciplinary support, dedicated cardiovascular operating room staff, and advanced cardiac anesthesia services. Assignment Dates September 29 (7:00 AM)

  • 7:00 AM Coverage includes inpatient rounding, consultations, and operative cases Candidates must be available for one or more of the listed assignment dates
Clinical Details & Responsibilities Setting:
Inpatient Facility Information:
Level I Trauma Center Ongoing cardiothoracic surgery coverage need One full-time equivalent (FTE) coverage needed
Responsibilities Include:
Round on cardiothoracic surgery patients Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations Perform cardiac surgical procedures Provide operative coverage for thoracic trauma when needed Supervise Advanced Practice Providers Collaborate with the multidisciplinary cardiovascular team
Case Volume:
Approximately 150 heart cases annually Average admissions: 1-4 per day Low callback volume
Required Procedures:
Standard Cardiac Surgery Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) ECMO cannulation Aortic dissections
Not Required:
Peripheral vascular surgery (covered by dedicated vascular surgery service)
Support & Technology EMR:
Epic Advanced Practice Provider coverage:
Surgical Physician Assistants:
8:00 AM
  • 4:30 PM Physician Assistants provide operative call coverage and Endoscopic Vein Harvesting (EVH) Nurse Practitioners provide weekend inpatient rounding Dedicated CVOR anesthesia team experienced with Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) Experienced CVOR nurses, scrub technicians, and additional surgical assistance available Requirements Board Certified in Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery
  • Required Active Nebraska medical license or Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) Letter of Qualification (LOQ) at the time of submission
  • Required ACLS certification
  • Highly Preferred BLS certification
  • Highly Preferred Active DEA registration
  • Highly Preferred Candidates must identify which assignment dates they are available to cover
  • Required Candidates must confirm proficiency and comfort performing all required procedures: Standard Cardiac Surgery Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) ECMO cannulation Aortic dissections
  • Required Candidates must disclose the number of ongoing shifts they are available to provide each month
  • Required Recent case logs strongly preferred: Approximately 100 cardiac surgery cases within the past year Candidates with 50 cases within the past year may qualify for emergency credentialing Organization & Team High-volume cardiothoracic surgery program Collaborative multidisciplinary cardiovascular team Experienced Advanced Practice Providers and dedicated cardiovascular operating room staff Excellent ancillary support allowing physicians to focus on patient care Ongoing opportunity for long-term locums coverage
