Job Description

Job Description Job Summary:
Responsible for providing inpatient and outpatient consultations for newborns through 21 years of age. Perform and interpret diagnostic tests. Offer telephone advice in response to physician's clinical questions. Essential Generic Job Functions (List in order of importance): Works cooperatively with the Section Chief in short and long range planning for the Neonatology Section. Provides medical care for all neonates requiring evaluation and treatment. Communicates with other institutions requesting neonate transport. Evaluates the need and makes necessary arrangements to perform safe infant transport. Participates in a neonatal follow up clinic. Assists in Performance Improvement and quality assessment activities in the Neonatology Section. Participates in 24-hour coverage for the practice (on-call responsibility) and participates in back up call. Works in conjunction with Nurse Managers for the L&D, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Nursery and the Section Chief on policy development, patient satisfaction, and other initiatives as requested. Serves as an educational resource for nursing staff, pediatric hospitalists, students, residents, fellows and attendings at HUMC and in the community. Participates actively in teaching programs. Serves on all appropriate HUMC medical/surgical committees relating to pediatrics and other committees, as designated by the Medical Board, the Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, and the Section Chief of Neonatology Develops, supervises and contributes to research projects within the Section. Participates in effective communication with nursing leadership, clinical personnel and families. Contributes to the process of professional billing operations within the section through accurate and timely completion of bills. Interacting with and responding to patient survey and patient grievances regarding quality of care. This list is non-exhaustive and may be supplemented as needed.
Knowledge, Education and Skills Preferred:
M.D. degree from a recognized medical school. Eligible for faculty appointment at the New Jersey Medical School. Ability to interface effectively with professional personnel
Required Certification/Licensing:
Board certified in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics. Board certified/eligible in Neonatology by the American Board of Pediatrics, with appropriate re-certification. Medical license in the State of New Jersey.
