This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, 130 SC-252, Anderson, SC 29621. As the Psychiatrist, under general supervision, you will provide psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment services for psychiatric patients at Harris Psychiatric Hospital. Performance of duty requires analysis, planning and development of complete psychiatric programs.
Responsibilities for the Psychiatrist include:
Conduct psychiatric examinations and ongoing evaluations in order to diagnose and treat patient conditions. Conduct rounds in the care and treatment of assigned patients. Complete all documentation, legal, and administrative requirements for assigned caseloads, including admission notes, progress notes, treatment plan documentation, discharge summaries, and other reports as necessary. Provide leadership in treatment planning and in treatment team meetings for assigned caseload. Collaborate with other disciplines in the identification of patient needs and interventions. Provide or make referrals for necessary treatment. Screen referred patients for admission to HPH. Perform designated examinations on assigned patients, in compliance with court timeframes and procedures; testify as designated examiner in court hearings and consult with patients' families or significant others as permitted and indicated. Attend and participate in medical staff and transition of care meeting. Participate in peer review and continuous quality management programs/initiatives, including participation in the identification of areas for improvement and in developing and implementing improved processes. Participate in psychiatric coverage at times of psychiatrist absences/shortage. Maintain clinical competency by mastering required mandatory and non-mandatory in services or training, such as MANDT/MAPS, CPR, and Pathlore. Minimum and Additional Requirements Licensed to practice medicine in the State of South Carolina. Completion of full residency (four years) in psychiatry. Board certification in psychiatry strongly preferred and required for certified classifications.
Additional Requirements:
This position requires the ability and dedication to work with severely and persistently mentally ill populations. Must be able to frequently walk, bend, stoop, lift up to 50lbs, and participate in emergency procedures. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
