Physician - Gastroentrologist Chesapeake Regional Medical Center - 2.9 Chesapeake, VA Job Details 8 hours ago Qualifications BLS Certification Basic life support DEA License Medical License Full Job Description Position Summary The Physician provides comprehensive medical care to patients through evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of acute and chronic health conditions. The Physician collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with organizational standards, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based practices. The Physician supports organizational goals related to clinical quality, patient safety, patient satisfaction, operational excellence, and community health. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Responsibilities Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients in accordance with accepted medical standards and clinical guidelines. Obtain and document comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations. Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests and procedures as appropriate. Develop individualized treatment and care plans for patients. Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Provide preventive care, health maintenance, and patient education. Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as necessary. Coordinate care with specialists, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, and ancillary departments. Provide consultation services as requested. Respond to medical emergencies and participate in on-call coverage as assigned. Documentation and Compliance Responsibilities Maintain timely, accurate, and complete medical records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system. Adhere to organizational policies, medical staff bylaws, and clinical protocols. Comply with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements including HIPAA, CMS, and Joint Commission standards. Maintain appropriate licensure, certifications, credentialing, and continuing medical education requirements. Participate in peer review, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives. Organizational Responsibilities Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and medical staff activities. Support organizational initiatives focused on quality, patient experience, and operational improvement. Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated patient care. Mentor and support medical staff, advanced practice providers, residents, or students as applicable. Promote a culture of professionalism, respect, accountability, and compassionate care. Qualifications Education Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school. Completion of accredited residency training in applicable specialty. Licensure and Certification Current unrestricted medical license in the applicable state. Board Certified or Board Eligible in applicable specialty. Current DEA registration as required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required based on specialty. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong clinical judgment and diagnostic skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, families, physicians, and staff. Commitment to patient-centered and evidence-based care. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Strong organizational, time management, and documentation skills. Proficiency with electronic medical record systems and healthcare technology.
