The position involves assessing and treing outpients, and when on call, emergency department pients and inpients, with psychopharmacology and psychotherapy. On call includes in-house call in rotion with others, and some call from home. On weekends, the tending is expected to do an tending admission note on all new pients and to make sure all pients on acute psychiry have a clinical note in addition to an encounter. These notes may be fairly divided with the resident(s), but the tending is also supervising the resident notes. The chief of the service is also available for administrive emergencies or clinical emergencies and unexpected adverse events. When on call, check the admission log for new admissions to make sure all such pients have approprie tending notes. The applicant is directly accountable to the Chief. Mental Health, Salem VAMC. The applicant works independently; supervision is mainly advisory in nure. The applicant provides first line supervision to residents and physician assistants as assigned, and may be required to lead clinical teams. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Basic Requirements:

United Stes Citizenship:

Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of educion in medicine or osteophic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a Ste, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United Stes, or in the District of Columbia.

Residency Training:

Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certificion. (

NOTE:

VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty stus.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accredition Council for Gradue Medical Educion (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteophic Associion (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United Stes), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with approprie professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an approprie range of pient care experiences. accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rher, they are to have a "scope of practice" th allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to pass a physical Educion Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of educion in allophic medicine or osteophic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accredition was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Approved schools are:

Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Educion (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or Schools of osteophic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteophic College Accredition of the American Osteophic Associion for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical gradues not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educional Commission for Foreign Medical Gradues (ECFMG) th the applicant has met requirements for certificion, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certifice, if claimed by the applicant. [If the applicant does not claim an ECFMG certifice, facility officials must still confirm th the medical school meets (or met) ECFMG eligibility requirements for the year the candide gradued.]
