Description This is a non-designated preliminary position and is only eligible to applicants who have successfully completed a PGY-1 year in an accredited general surgery program in the USA or Canada. Responsibilities are equivalent to categorical PGY-2 resident. This is an educational program and successful completion of our PGY-2 preliminary year will allow an applicant to apply for an open categorical PGY-3 position in the USA. Clinical duties include shared call and junior resident responsibilities on our established services at our 4 main teaching locations in New Haven, West Haven, and Bridgeport. We follow all ACGME requirements. Applicants should have at least 100 documented core cases from PGY-1 year and can expect a role in at least 150 cases as PGY-2. Our PGY-2 residents work with a diverse surgical team including nurses, APP's, junior and senior residents, fellows, attending surgeons and medical students. Interest and commitment to learning and teaching is essential. Regular feedback will be provided and you will be assigned a resident and faculty mentor to support and guide career aspirations. All residents are expected to interact with patients, staff and colleagues with the utmost professionalism and attention to detail. Foreign medical graduates must have a current valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) Postgraduate Training Authorization Letter (PTAL) confirming completion of pre-residency requirements. No more than 2 years out of medical school. At least 1 year of US clinical experience required in an ACGME accredited program. We will only sponsor J-1 visas and there will be no exceptions.
