Major Duties/Responsibilities :

Performs physical examinion, assess, and diagnose foot/ankle phology of non-diabetic as well as diabetic pients. Provides outpient and inpient Podiry consultion and surgical services such as osseous digital procedures, open management of digital fracture, partial ostectomy/exostectomy, hallux valgus surgery, hallux limitus surgery, as well as a full spectrum of soft tissue foot surgery such as excision of soft tissue tumor, tendon repair, and removal of deep foreign body. Performs selected reconstructive midfoot, hindfoot, and ankle surgery. Performs biomechanical examinions and procedures reled to castings, prosthetics, and orthotics. Prescription of pharmaceuticals and therapeutic devices, (orthotics, prosthetics, plaster casts, immobilizion devices, etc.). Provides wound care services including debridement of ulcers, nail avulsion, removal of hardware. Provides local care of calluses and pedal ulcerion such as deformed, painful and/or infected nails which may result in significant extension of infection, ulcerion, disability, or gangrene; particularly in pients predisposed to infection or its extension by systemic disease (diabetes mellitus). Performs approprie consultion, referral, and co-management of pients with compliced systemic conditions. Provides clinical teaching and coordinion of medical educional activities for podiric students, residents, and staff. Podirist Basic Requirements:

Degree as a doctor of podiric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United Stes schools of podiric medicine approved by the Council on Podiry Educion of the American Podiry Associion in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~ Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certificion. VA Podirists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty stus.

Approved residencies are:

(1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for gradue medical educion, the Council on Podiric Medical Educion, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with approprie professional training. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiry in a Ste, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United Stes or in the District of Columbia.
