Videos Duties Help Phology and Laborory Medicine (P&LM) Service provides a broad range of testing and consultive services in laborory medicine, anomic and clinical phology, every day, the Setle Campus. Services for the American Lake campus laborory which offers access to the same phology services and clinical laborory onsite. Overall, P&LM offers client services, chemistry, toxicology, hemology, coagulion, urinalysis, transfusion, serology, microbiology, molecular microbiology, cytology, including fine needle aspirion, autopsy, surgical phology, including immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy, and point of care testing oversight multiple locions. Duties include but are not limited to: Supervising the work of subordine staff engaged in professional, managerial, technical, and other lab support activities; monitoring work performance; deleging work effectively. Analyzing a variety of complex laborory issues and making sound clinical recommendions. Planning, developing, and coordining quality control and quality improvement programs. Utilizing technology tools, including computer hardware and software, to efficiently perform duties; assisting with and coordining the improvement of such tools. Overseeing activities of clinical laborory medicine, both anomic and clinical phology sections, and providing supervision of the Laborory Manager, Quality Manager, and Section Chiefs. Overseeing the quality of services performed by contracted commercial reference laborories. Defining metrics and ensuring a program of routine monitoring and quality improvement for processes, both internal and external to P&LMS. Ensuring P&LM staff receive adeque initial and periodic training and proficiency or competence assessment. Providing consultion and guidance to health care providers regarding mters pertaining to phology and laborory medicine and the medical significance of laborory findings. Identifying and overseeing all testing performed within the facility and outreach clinics, and providing assistance and oversight to ensure th any testing performed complies with existing VHA policies, to include oversight responsibility for Ancillary Testing Sites, and participing in the evaluion of test approprieness for the institution regardless of the testing site. The VA Medical Center's Ancillary Testing Coordinor or other staff appointed by the Laborory Director must provide quality improvement oversight in each Ancillary Testing Site. Performing site s of the American Lake Laborory and community-based outpient clinics where laborory services are offered least quarterly and as needed to maintain high-quality services. Approved schools are United Stes schools of podiric medicine approved by the Council on Podiry Educion of the American Podiry Associion in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~ Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certificion. VA Podirists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty stus.Approved residencies are:
(1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for gradue medical educion, the Council on Podiric Medical Educion, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with approprie professional training. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiry in a Ste, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United Stes or in the District of Columbia.
