Position Information School/College School of Medicine Title School of Medicine-Clinical Health Psychologist-Family and Community Medicine Assignment Category Full-Time Rank Open Rank Tenure Status Open Tenure Payroll Status Faculty 12 Job Description The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Family and Community Medicine is seeking to hire a doctoral-level, full-time faculty member for the position of Clinical Health Psychologist to join our integrated primary care program. A core member of the team, the psychologist is embedded within our primary care clinics to employ the Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) model. This approach supports our department's mission to continuously improve patient care, education, research, and service.
This role will:
Provide collaborative clinical care across the lifespan via brief, evidence-based behavioral interventions for common health concerns; offer same-day warm handoffs and curbside consultations with focused follow-ups; conduct targeted assessments; provide patient education and self-management plans; coordinate needed care with the PCP and document in the EHR for a wide variety of biopsychosocial health concerns in the context of our teaching-based Family Medicine clinics to enhance primary care workflows and outcomes Develop and evaluate clinical programs to address targeted, high-risk populations with chronic medical conditions and track outcomes Assist with the ongoing development, evaluation and provision of the behavioral science curriculum of our educational programs Supervise, teach, and evaluate learners with regard to such topics and skills as communication, motivational interviewing and other methods of behavior change, resilience, and dynamics of high-functioning teams Seek grant funding to develop behavioral-health-related department initiatives Work with UAB faculty inside and outside of the department to pursue scholarly activity in areas such as population health, lifestyle medicine, and leadership in medicine The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is a comprehensive urban university with the nation's fifth-largest hospital (2026) and Newsweek's best hospital in Alabama (2026), which has rapidly evolved into a world-renowned research university and health care center.
