Please Note - This is a new classification for the County. Classification, salary range, and funding for this position is subject to approval by the County of San Luis Obispo Board of Supervisors. Anticipated Board approval date is July 1, 2026. The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office is seeking a dedicated and experienced Psychologist to provide PhD psychological services. Incumbents in this position provide therapeutic and diagnostic psychological services across a range of mental health programs and client populations. They contribute to staff development initiatives, participate in community consultation and educational outreach, and offer case consultation to support treatment planning. Responsibilities may also include supervising programs, leading program evaluation efforts, or assisting with program assessment and improvement activities. This recruitment may be used to fill future permanent, substitute, limited term, and temporary positions, both full-time and part-time. The ideal candidate will have a knowledge of clinical psychology, philosophy of community mental health, related federal, state, and local regulations, and etiology of human dysfunction from biological, sociological and psychological frames of reference, along with research and statistical methods. Additionally, successful candidates will have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, effectively evaluate and treat clients, offer consultation to community agencies, evaluate programs, and w rite professional reports. Education and Experience A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes: Must have at least two years of experience in a mental health setting. Licenses and Certificates Must have obtained a California license as a psychologist, granted by the California State Board of Psychology.
