Essential Elements:
Print The school psychologist works as a member of the Special Education Department and is responsible for effective functioning in the following areas as assigned. Evaluate the intellectual potential, learning needs, social and emotional adaptation of atypical children; Consult with regular special education staff to interpret results of evaluation and assist in program planning for children with identified special needs; This includes participation in the assessment identification and placement of children in special programs (GATE, Mild-Mod, Mod-Severe, etc.); Integrate assessment data, write comprehensive case study reports and communicate results and recommendations to parents and school staff; Provide crisis intervention; Provide consultation to staff and direct services to children in special education placements; Assist parents and staff in developing and implementing more effective methods for relating with children; Conduct individual and group counseling of students; Participate in Student Study Teams, Discipline committee meetings, etc. as appropriate; Plan and participate in inservice programs as appropriate for parents, teachers and community groups; Serve as a child advocate and support the development and implementation of prevention and intervention programs for students, including at-risk students; Serve as liaison with community agencies; Other duties as requested. Valid California credential authorizing service as school psychologist; BCBA; Knowledge and skills in administering and interpreting a wide variety of evaluative devices; Ability to communicate easily and effectively both orally and in writing; Superior knowledge and understanding of child growth and development; Ability to work effectively in team relationships. Desirable Qualifications - Knowledge of legal requirements for Special Education.

The District employs approximately 1,075 teachers, administrators and support staff. We have 13 schools which operate on a traditional school year schedule.
