Job Description

The College of Liberal Arts is accepting applications for the Department Chair of Psychology Reporting to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, the Department of Psychology Chair represents the Department to the College, other administrators, in the community, and throughout the state of Mississippi. The Chair will oversee the undergraduate B.S. program, which prepares undergraduate students for entry into graduate psychology and other professional programs, as well as employment in community mental health settings. The Chair will also serve as the chief advocate for the Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology and will work closely with the Director of Clinical Training (DCT). In collaboration with faculty and staff, the Chair leads the Department in all aspects of program and curriculum development, scholarly/creative activity, advocacy, and service. The Chair schedules and staffs all classes, supervises departmental employees, administers performance evaluations, and recommends faculty for promotion and tenure as outlined by the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL). The Chair also develops and manages departmental budgets, oversees facilities and equipment, and responds to concerns referred by faculty, students, University officials, and outside constituents. The Chair will be required to maintain appropriate teaching responsibilities, publications, grantsmanship, and service. Participation in community service and service-learning projects is strongly promoted. Candidates must have experience in academic administration, and show evidence of achieving recognition for their work commensurate with the rank of Full Professor, with a Ph.D. in Psychology. (Must be licensed or licensed eligible in the state of Mississippi if the degree is in either Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology). Experience with APA and regional accreditation bodies, and previous teaching and administrative experience in a department with a doctoral granting program in Clinical, Counseling or School Psychology. Desirable qualifications include excellent interpersonal skills, documented leadership skills, evidence of a distinguished scholarly record, a history of external funding, experience with program development in research and education, strong communication and organizational skills, and evidence of commitment in working with and supporting a diverse student and faculty population.
