Job Description

The Children's Cochlear Implant Center at UNC is seeking an audiology extern for our large pediatric cochlear implant clinic for the 2027-28 academic year. The Children's Cochlear Implant Center at UNC has been providing cochlear implants to children who are deaf and hard of hearing for over 30 years. We are a multi-disciplinary team that focuses on the support of families, clinical research and best practice in our approach to what is necessary for the successful use of cochlear implants. Our externship placement is a specialized placement for those interested in pediatric cochlear implants. Our extern works as a part of the pediatric implant team assisting clinicians with cochlear implant evaluations, mappings, follow-up booth testing, as well as counseling families pre and post implantation. Externs will work with all 3 major cochlear implant device manufacturers. In addition to traditional cochlear implant candidates, our team works with EAS and SSD. Externs will work toward independence in evaluating patients for candidacy, activation of cochlear implants, and regular mapping appointments.
