POSITION

DESCRIPTION

TITLE:

School Psychologist

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in school psychology from an accredited college or university New Mexico Public Education Department License in School Psychology

OVERVIEW OF JOB DESCRIPTION

To apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior, to help children and youth with special needs succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Follow local, state and federal law and adhere to Public Education Department and Local School Board Policy. Maintain confidentiality of student information. Perform appropriate evaluations of children referred for school psychology. Provide individual and/or group therapy to students. Help students cope with stress and understand themselves and their special needs. Help students develop and maintain a positive self-concept, become responsible, and get along with others. Follow all Technical Evaluation and Assessment Manual (TEAM) guidelines and Work together with school personnel to identify suitable programs and services for students with special needs. Perform other relevant tasks as assigned.

REPORTS TO

Principal and Special Services Administrators

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Work year will be in accordance with current schedule for 191-day employees. Work day is an eight-hour day. Salary determined by individual training and experience level on current Certified Support Staff Salary Schedule.

EVALUATION

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education's policy on evaluation of certified personnel.

PHYSICAL LEVEL RATING

This position will require the employee to function at a "medium" physical capacity as defined by Workman's Compensation statutes. "Medium" physical capacity indicates the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally or up to 25 pounds frequently.
