About the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences The Department is committed to fostering a culture that values and promotes innovation in training methods, research and service to the community. Our department leads psychiatry education for the Dell Medical School and its post-graduate programs train mental health professionals to become 21st-century leaders in the fields of psychiatry and psychology. Our department's clinical services provide culturally informed, evidence-based care for individuals and families in multiple general medical and specialty behavioral health settings with an active and strong presence in community settings. Importantly, the Department is leading efforts at the University of Texas at Austin to execute cutting-edge basic and clinical research that illuminates the underlying neurobiological causes of psychiatric disorders and identifies novel treatments for psychiatric disorders. About the Pediatric Psychologist The Pediatric Psychologist will be responsible for conducting comprehensive diagnostic evaluations for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and related developmental conditions, and for designing and implementing evidence-based intervention plans. This role involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams within Dell Children's Medical Center to support optimal developmental, behavioral, and emotional outcomes for youth who are in acute crisis.
Essential Functions:
The Pediatric Psychologist will provide family-centered care by delivering psychoeducation on autism spectrum disorder and evidence-based interventions, while offering training and support to staff, trainees, and community partners. They remain current with emerging research and best practices in autism assessment and treatment. The Pediatric Psychologist will conduct comprehensive developmental and psychological evaluations for children and adolescents, administering and interpreting standardized tools (e.g., ADOS-2, ADI-R, cognitive and adaptive measures). Additionally, the psychologist will integrate data from interviews, observations, and testing to inform accurate diagnoses, prepare clear and clinically meaningful reports, and deliver feedback to families in a compassionate and accessible manner, including practical recommendations for next steps. The Pediatric Psychologist will routinely interact with external stakeholders, including emergency room and hospital physicians, staff and external community mental health providers to engage in collaborative care for identified at-risk youth and their families. The Pediatric Psychologist will join our growing interdisciplinary faculty in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Dell Medical School. Engagement in provision of training, supervision and didactics for psychology interns and fellows, as well as participation in clinical research and general program development efforts through the Department, are encouraged. Qualifications Required Qualifications Doctoral degree from an APA or CPA accredited program in Clinical, Counseling or School Psychology Completion of an APA or CPA accredited internship in psychology Completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical child and adolescent or pediatric psychology Unrestricted license to practice psychology in the State of Texas or ability to obtain prior to appointment Eligibility and commitment to pursue board certification through the American Board of Professional Psychology. Eligible for faculty appointment at The University of Texas Dell Medical School.
