Most recently, we opened the new April Sampson Cancer Center located in south Lincoln, where we provide state of the art technology for patients, including Varian TrueBeams, EDGE Radiosurgical suite, along with additional innovative technologies and service lines. Cancer Partners of Nebraska is seeking a Radiation Therapist (Full-time, Part-time, or PRN) . This position provides radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by a radiation oncologist according to established practices and standards. Duties may include reviewing prescription and diagnosis; acting as liaison with physician and supportive care personnel; preparing equipment, such as immobilization, treatment, and protection devices; and maintaining records, reports, and files. May assist in dosimetry procedures and tumor localization. CPN offers competitive starting salary and benefits along with a lucrative sign-on bonus.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Administer prescribed doses of radiation to specific body parts, using radiation therapy equipment according to established practices and standards. Position patients for treatment with accuracy according to prescription. Enter data into computer and set controls to operate and adjust equipment and regulate dosage. Follow principles of radiation protection for patient, self, and others. Maintain records, reports and files as required, including such information as radiation dosages, equipment settings and patients' reactions. Check radiation therapy equipment to ensure proper operation. Observe and reassure patients during treatment and report unusual reactions to physician or turn equipment off if unexpected adverse reactions occur. Help physicians, radiation oncologists and clinical physicists to prepare physical and technical aspects of radiation treatment plans, using information about patient condition and anatomy. Educate, prepare and reassure patients and their families by answering questions, providing physical assistance, and reinforcing physicians' advice regarding treatment reactions and post-treatment care. Calculate actual treatment dosages delivered during each session.
Education and Training:
Graduate of accredited radiation therapy technology program ARRT Certification in
Radiation Therapy Experience :
1 to 2 years at a recognized institution
Knowledge:
Knowledge of and appreciation for a teamwork concept, clinic policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care as it relates to the Radiation Oncology department. Knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA and other regulatory policies
Skills:
Skill in proper equipment use, preventive maintenance and repair Computer keyboarding skills Skill in customer service, communications, organization and confidentiality (HIPAA)
Abilities:
Ability to act in a professional and positive manner when interacting with patients Ability to react calmly and effectively in stressful situations Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, in writing and on the phone in the English language
Schedule:
Day shift Monday to Friday Full-time, Part-time, and PRN available Environmental and Physical Demands Varied activities including sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting and reaching Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination Frequent standing for extended periods of time Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds Vision must be corrected to 20/20 and hearing must be in normal range Occasional stress related to workload and patients with problems CPN is an equal opportunity employer.
