And everyone, in their own unique way, plays an important part, every day. Administers radiation therapy to patients following established standards, practices and guidelines. Always performing radiation safety measures for the protection of patients and personnel. Collaborates with the supervisor to deliver appropriate, safe, high quality and cost effective care. I.Major Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for efficient operation of the assigned clinical treatment or simulation unit. 2. Plans, prepares, and delivers a prescribed course of radiation to patient. Checks prescription, diagnosis, chart and patient-identification prior to treatment. Explains procedure to patient as means of communication during treatment. Answers questions and reassures patient. Reinforces physician's advice to patient regarding reactions to treatment and to care. Prepares room and equipment for patient according to chart specifications for field size, distance, time, and the like. 3. Administers radiation therapy treatments observing radiation safety measures for patients and personnel. Transfers patient safety to treatment table, giving special care to catheters, I.V.'s, and the like. 4. Monitors patient and equipment during treatment. Maintains patient markings. Maintains simulation room. Assists Radiation (Oncologist) and Physicist in simulation of patients prior to radiation treatments. Observes patient for unusual reactions and reports to supervisor or others. Assists in follow-up and clinical examinations of patient. 5. Maintains departmental records. Updates patient charts as required. Maintains records of daily treatment. Maintains separate files on all therapy patients. Schedules patient appointments. 6. Assists in care and maintenance of facilities, equipment and supplies. Maintains work area in clean, orderly and safe condition. Maintains equipment in good working order; makes minor repairs as necessary. Reports any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdown immediately to supervisor or others. Initiates requisitions for supplies as needed. 7. Assists in the development of new techniques and/or the resolution of clinical problems. 8. Teaches when operational possible in the Radiation Therapy Technology school.Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities:
1. Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives. 2. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed. 3. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations. 4. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements. 5. Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors. 6. Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance. 7. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed. All responsibilities are essential job functions. II.Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy 2. Must have a valid Massachusetts license in Radiation Therapy.Preferred:
1. Graduate of CAHEA-approved Radiation Therapy Technology Program.Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Minimum of five years of continuous clinical experience in a comparable clinical setting. 2. Must have knowledge and experience in: a. Specialty areas such as Simulation, Total Body Irradiation, and Total Skin Irradiation. b. 3-Dimensional, SBRT, SRT, SRS, IMRT, KVAND CBCT
imaging and treatments and Quality Assurance programs. c. Computer Management System for Radiation Oncology, i.e., ARIA, Impac, etc. 3. Effective verbal and written communication skills. 4. Excellent customer service skills and ability to work cooperatively with all members of the healthcare team. Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements. Department-specific competencies, including age-specific competencies and their measurements, will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents. III.
