LOCATION
: Will float between Roper Hospital & Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital. Primary Function/General Purpose of Position This role directs the daily operations of the treatment area to ensure quality patient care and promotes radiation therapy standards and safety standards. This role is actively involved in patient care and assists in planning services to achieve hospital objectives. The Radiation Therapist works under the guidance of the Radiation Oncologist, Physicist, and Manager to deliver high-quality care and services. Essential Job Functions Sets up treatment rooms, devices, and parameters as ordered by the Radiation Oncologist. Identifies patients and monitors them during treatment. Reinforces instructions and maintains patient markings. Positions patients according to prescriptions, requiring physical effort and mental application. Coordinates treatment area activities and scheduling. Documents thoroughly in treatment records. Performs simulations, brachytherapy procedures, and daily quality checks on equipment. Maintains equipment, reports problems, and observes radiation safety practices. Assists in treatment device changes and follows instructions from Radiation Oncologists. Performs ancillary duties, such as filing, answering phones, and monitoring supplies. Licensing/Certification License in State of practice in Radiation Oncology (required, except for candidates hired to acute care sites in Virginia) Radiation Oncology Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (required) CPR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (required) Work Experience 1 year Experience in Radiation Therapy and CT Simulation (preferred) Training N/A Language N/A Patient Population Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. Adults (18-64 years) Geriatrics (65 years and older) Working Conditions Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights. May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids.
  • May be exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious materials.
  • Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.
