Radiation Therapist - Radiation Oncology

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and skilled part-time/PRN Radiation Therapist to join our cancer center. The Radiation Therapist reports to the Chief Radiation Therapist of the Center. This individual will administer targeted doses of radiation to the patient's body as prescribed by the radiation oncologist and must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patients served. Radiation therapists are highly skilled medical specialists educated in physics, radiation safety, patient anatomy and patient care. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Follows regulated standards to protect patients and practitioners from high doses of radiation Positions patients for treatment (utilizing treatment devices when prescribed) with accuracy according to radiation oncologist's prescription Administers the prescribed doses of radiation defined in patient's treatment plan, to the specified target area of the patient's body using radiation therapy equipment according to established practices and standards Monitor patients during treatment and ensure their safety Work closely with the radiation oncologist, dosimetrist, physicist, Chief Radiation Therapist and other medical staff to provide quality and accurate care Assist Physics and Dosimetry team in evaluating and troubleshooting equipment problems as needed In cooperation with the physicist and Chief Radiation Therapist, assures equipment quality assurance procedures are performed and potential problems are reported Possess the ability to communicate and relate well with patients who are under physical and emotional stress Observes and reassures patients during and after treatment and reports to physician any unusual reactions or concerns about changes in patient's status Knowledge of linear accelerators, CT simulators and the operating software that control treatment machines Check prescriptions, diagnosis, chart and patient identification Accurately keep detailed records of their patients' treatments Reviews simulation and treatment charges for accuracy and completion Performs other duties as assigned Job Qualifications Graduation from a school accredited in radiation therapy instruction Board Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy (RT[T]) 2 years of experience as a Radiation Therapist is preferred Required Skills Radiation Protection Radiation Oncology Patient Care Computer proficiency/
