Job Summary The Lead Radiation Therapist serves as a working clinical leader, responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient delivery of radiation therapy under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist. This role combines advanced clinical expertise with operational oversight, team leadership, and coordination of daily treatment activities across all treatment locations. The Lead Radiation Therapist promotes a culture of teamwork, quality, safety, and patient-centered care while acting as a key communication link between therapists, physicians, physicists, and management. This position supports staff development, workflow optimization, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Qualifications Required:
Current Texas licensure or board eligibility in Radiation Therapy. Current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy. Maintenance of ARRT certification with a minimum of 24 continuing education hours as required. Associate's degree in Radiation Therapy (Bachelor's degree preferred), or completion of a radiography program plus an accredited 12‑month Radiation Therapy certificate program. Current BLS/CPR certification. Minimum of three (3) years of full-time experience as a Radiation Therapist in a radiation oncology center, with clinic-based experience preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated computer proficiency. Essential Job Duties Clinical Responsibilities Prepare treatment rooms and equipment for daily radiation therapy delivery. Accurately position patients and operate linear accelerators according to approved treatment plans. Explain treatment procedures clearly and compassionately to patients. Deliver prescribed radiation treatments with precision and adherence to safety protocols. Monitor patients during treatment and recognize, document, and report adverse reactions. Maintain complete and accurate medical records, including treatment parameters, doses, and patient responses. Perform daily linear accelerator warm-ups and quality checks, including photon and electron beam consistency. Ensure compliance with radiation safety and regulatory standards. Participate in quality assurance activities for equipment and treatment delivery. Leadership and Operational Oversight Serve as a working leader, ensuring safe, accurate, and efficient treatment delivery across all machines and locations. Oversee daily operations and treatment flow, including scheduling, delays, staffing coverage, and new treatment starts. Act as the primary liaison between radiation therapists, radiation oncologists, physicists, and support staff. Provide real-time clinical and operational support to therapists. Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve workflow, staffing, or operational challenges. Ensure adherence to quality, safety, and documentation standards. Assist management in implementing new processes and adapting to operational changes. Support staffing coordination, schedule adjustments, and coverage planning as needed. Staff Development and Administrative Support Mentor and coach radiation therapists and therapy students. Assist with interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training new radiation therapy staff. Ensure competency-based instruction of newly hired staff and students on all applicable equipment and procedures. Approve timecards and electronically approve management pre-approved PTO requests. Assist management with ordering clinical, radiotherapy, and office supplies. Coordinate and schedule regular maintenance for chillers, air compressors, and related equipment. Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and professional work environment. Perform other duties as assigned.

Regularly required to sit, type, talk, and hear. Occasional walking, reaching, and lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
Primarily a clinic office setting with moderate noise. Frequent interaction with staff and patients. Minimal exposure to communicable diseases. May experience periods of stress when dealing with time-sensitive tasks or sensitive situations.
