Duties & Responsibilities:
Job Summary CT Tech. The Computed Tomography (C.T.) Technologist is a highly skilled professional who uses specialized computerized x-ray equipment to produce cross sectional images of the human anatomy which aid radiologists in diagnosing a wide variety of diseases and disorders. Radiology Tech. The Radiology Tech is responsible for arranging, attaching or adjusting immobilization and supportive devices such as sandbags, binders and angle-boards to obtain the precise position, prevent patients of all ages from moving and lessen discomfort; adjusts lead shield to protect unaffected parts of the body from exposure to x-ray. Duties CT Tech. Operate head or body x-ray scanners which create a computer generated cross-sectional image, commonly called a CAT (Computed Axial Tomography) Scan Responsible for educating and preparing patients for their examinations Provide patient care that is essential to the performance of a variety of procedures Take patient medical history before an exam Position patients so desired anatomy will be demonstrated Determine and set appropriate technical parameters to accurately demonstrate anatomy and pathology Assume responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients Supervised by a board certified radiologist but afforded a great amount of independence and responsibility Performs other duties as assigned Radiology Tech. Operates x-ray equipment to make radiographs of designated portions of the body under the supervision of a Radiologist and performs related duties Adjusts x-ray equipment to correct setting for each examination; positions and instructs patients of all ages; and determines proper voltage, current and desired exposure time for each radiograph Selects proper film and inserts into holder Positions x-ray equipment at proper distance and angle from patient's body to present clear and undistorted view and adjust collimator to direct concentration of rays on specified area Steps behind protective enclosure and flips switch to activate machine which automatically cuts off at the end of present exposure time Repeats exposure procedure from slightly different angle as prescribed by physician Places exposed film and patient's identification slip into wall safe for processing by darkroom assistant Follows same procedure to operate mobile x-ray equipment in the Operating Room, Emergency Room or at bedside Must wear protective clothing Before internal organs are x-rayed, it may be necessary for the patient to drink barium salts or another chemical mixture to assure that the organs show clearly in the x-ray picture Follows the age requirements to prepare and administer these mixtures to patients Develops film by automatic processing Prepares and maintains records and files as directed Cleans and makes minor adjustments to equipment May specialize in taking C.T. Images, Ultrasound Images, Special Procedure Exams, along with taking x-rays of such specific areas of the body as chest, gastrointestinal, orthopedic or head Obtains knowledge of; X-ray machine units, film, fluoroscope, cameras and protective garments Performs other duties as assigned
Lifting Requirements:
 Heavy lifting: up to 100 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to stand, stoop and lift and walk without restrictions.
