Job Description
Overview and purpose: The MRI Technician is responsible for conducting magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures using high-field MRI equipment for interpretation by veterinary neurologists and radiologists. The role includes overseeing the maintenance of imaging equipment—MRI, X-ray, and ultrasound—and ensuring patient, staff, and equipment safety during procedures. Responsibilities also include evaluating image quality and managing image transfer to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited training program in radiology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of two years' experience working with cross-sectional imaging (CT or MRI) Veterinary experience preferred Ability to lift 40lbsMajor Duties:
Provide assistance to neurologist, DVMs, and veterinary technicians with neurologic patients Assist veterinary technicians with animal handling, procedures, and diagnostics Maintain accurate and concise medical records Operate and maintain MRI, radiology, and ultrasound equipment Achieve high quality x-ray and MRI images for interpretationTechnical and Procedural Responsibilities:
Collaborate with neurologists to coordinate daily workflow Communicate and collaborate with staff to ensure steady workflow of MRI studies Calculate and administer contrast dose for each patient (as needed) Assist anesthesia technicians with: Anesthesia monitoring setup Anesthetic medication administration Patient intubation Medication preparation during MRI procedures Communication regarding anesthetic concerns Scan patients for MRI safety prior to imaging Position patients for MRI Perform MRI scans per protocols Assist with joint and spinal taps as needed Ensure imaging-related charges and notes are entered into medical records Draft MRI reports for neurologist and radiologist review Submit images for radiologist interpretation; email studies/reports to referring veterinarians or owners as appropriate Anticipate DVM and departmental needs regarding imaging Ensure reports for all imaging modalities are included in patient medical records Function as the point person for imaging equipment problems, questions, or concerns Manage inventory on a weekly basis for all imaging modalities Daily PACS management for all imaging modalitiesRequirements:
