Job Description

Job Purpose The PRN Radiology/Laboratory Technician performs x-rays and a variety of technical tasks involving the operation of x-ray equipment, as well as administrative tasks related to radiology workflow. The PRN Radiology/Laboratory Technician will be cross trained to perform all functions associated with daily operations of CHC's in house laboratory. Primary Responsibilities and Duties 1. Radiology a. Performs simple, plain film x-rays for patients, as ordered by CHC providers or outside orders in accordance with CHC protocols. b. Demonstrates the ability to provide appropriate care according to the patient's age while performing radiology duties. Communicates x-ray procedure, assist patients as needed, and uses protective devices as required, as appropriate for each age group. c. Ensures ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) radiation dose guidelines are maintained for the patient and technician per NC and federal regulations. d. Ensures the quality of the x-ray is satisfactory. e. Enters each patient's information in the computer prior to imaging and then enter all information needed to send x-rays over to off-site Radiologist for over-reads. 2. Administrative Duties a. Maintains records of all x-rays performed at CHC and ensures receipt of written report from off-site radiologist. b. Scans radiology reports into patient's record in EHR. c. In conjunction with the Radiation Safety Officer, ensures that Radiology is performed in compliance North Carolina and federal regulations. 3. Laboratory a. Collects lab specimens. b. Demonstrates an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturation process in delivery of services to patients of the age groups served. c. Demonstrates the ability to provide appropriate care according to the patient's age while performing phlebotomy duties. d. Accurately prepares samples for testing. e. Performs general lab testing procedures such as limited microscopy, rapid strep, flu, pregnancy testing, urine drug screen, HgbA1c, hemoglobin, hemoccult, glucose, urine dip, and other testing as defined in the Center's laboratory procedures and per CLIA requirements. f. Performs proficiency testing as scheduled by the American Proficiency Institute. g. Documents labs performed in EMR, according to CHC protocols. h. Alerts providers of abnormal lab results. i. Scans lab results into EMR as needed.
