Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Registered Radiologist Assistant (RRA) is an advanced-level radiologic technologist who functions as an expert clinical extender and patient advocate within the radiology specialty. The RRA provides direct patient care under the supervision of a radiologist, including performing advanced imaging procedures, patient assessment, and assisting in the planning and coordination of diagnostic and therapeutic care. The RRA may evaluate patient history, perform physical assessments relevant to imaging procedures, and communicate initial observations to the radiologist in accordance with established protocols and regulatory guidelines. In addition to direct clinical practice, the RRA contributes to education, quality improvement, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The RRA is actively involved in both direct and indirect patient care activities aimed at enhancing quality, safety, and efficiency across the continuum of care. The RRA provides and supports patient care within the Imaging department and plays a key role in the coordination and workflow of services such as Cardiac CTA, interventional and therapeutic procedures, and Breast Imaging programs. This position is a vital member of the clinical team, working closely with radiologists, referring physicians, and multidisciplinary staff to ensure timely, compassionate, and high-quality patient care.PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Radiologist Assistant (RA) is an advanced-level radiologic technologist who works under the direct supervision of a licensed radiologist
- The RA enhances patient care by performing delegated fluoroscopic procedures, conducting patient assessments, assisting in image-guided interventions, and communicating preliminary observations to the supervising radiologist
- The RA must meet all regulatory requirements of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners (BME)
- Obtain patient medical histories, perform focused physical assessments, and document findings
- Explain imaging procedures, address patient concerns, and secure informed consent when delegated
- Assess contraindications and record vital signs before, during, and after procedures
- Perform delegated fluoroscopic procedures (e.

regulations- Position patients and operate fluoroscopic and imaging equipment in compliance with radiation safety standards
- Place IV lines, administer oxygen, apply ECG leads, and assist with catheterizations
- Recognize and respond to adverse reactions, contrast complications, and medical emergencies under supervision
- Provide preliminary observations of imaging findings to the supervising radiologist (not communicated directly to referring physicians)
- Relay finalized radiology reports from the radiologist to referring providers
- Participate in quality improvement, safety, and performance initiatives
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS REQUIRED
- Amer Registry Radiologic Tech (Required)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Required)
- Graduate of an ARRT-approved Radiologist Assistant program.
- Master of Arts or Science
Education Specialization:
Radiologic Sciences- Minimum 5 years' experience as a radiologic technologist in hospital setting
- Minimum 2 years' experience as a radiologist Assistant in a hospital setting
