Job Description

The Lead Mammography Tech is responsible for providing quality patient care and the highest quality imaging examinations. This is accomplished by demonstrating clinical competence, facilitating an ongoing continuous quality control/improvement process of the services offered and providing leadership to the technical staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for some mammography work, such as performing mammography and stereotatic exams, using department protocols, pertinent clinical data, knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and proper documentation. To lead, direct and coach mammography staff members, breast center nurses and clerical staff. To communicate with the medical director, manager and other hospital departments when necessary. To continually monitor the growth and development of the mammography service, including patient volume and cost management. Responsible for inventory/budget and payroll management. To develop and/or modify protocols according to the needs of the mammography department, in conjunction with the medical director. To manage patient schedule load. Responsible for the weekly, monthly, semi-annual and annual QA of the mammography department. To plan weekly, holiday and vacation scheduling coverage. To participate in the selection and orientation of new staff members. Complete yearly performance appraisals.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
EXPERIENCE Minimum of 5 years technical experience. Minimum three years of mammography experience.
EDUCATION
High School graduate or equivalent required. Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology program.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Thorough knowledge and understanding of the principles and procedures of Radiologic Technology and Mammography. Demonstrates superior knowledge of the hospital structure, objectives and standards of practice. Superior skills in interpersonal communication. Registered by the A.R.R.T. in Radiologic Technology and Mammography. Valid New York State Radiographic license from the Department of Health.
