Job Description
Under general direction of the Recreation Program Manager, responsible for coordinating, instructing, and leading a variety of special events and programs for the Recreation Division, Parks & Recreation Department. This position is responsible for the production of monthly and annual marketing materials for Community Programs.

Casual Recreation Specialists 1. Provide on-site technical direction of work production to lower-level positions. 2. Plan, organize, and implement all ongoing and new special events and recreational programs. 3. Coordinate large community events and sponsorships with local businesses, organizations, and agencies. 4. Organize and lead indoor/outdoor recreation activities for youth, families, and adults. 5. Develop and coordinate marketing materials for programs and events. 6. Responsible for equipment procurement, maintenance, inventory, and use for programs and events. 7. Ensure a safe and fun environment for program and event participants. 8. Register participants and communicate with participants and organizations concerning programs and events. 9. Open and close Joy Community Center as required. Act as a point of contact during special events. 10. Maintain participation data. Prepare monthly attendance and activity reports as required. 11. Perform first aid procedures as appropriate for the situation. 12. Recognize emergency situations and react in a professional manner to provide guidance while maintaining participant confidentiality. 13. Other duties as assignedMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. High school diploma or equivalent. Prefer an Associate's degree in Recreation, Marketing, Gerontology, Therapeutic Recreation, education or any related filed. 2. Minimum two (2) years of direct work experience organizing events or teaching programs. 3. Minimum of six (6) months supervisory experience preferred. 4. Demonstrated recent proficiency in personal computer applications. Proficiency in MS Word and Excel required, prefer experience with desktop publishing. 5. Must have and be able to maintain a valid driver's license. Must meet insurance standards and maintain insurability under the Borough's insurance program. If personal automobile is used for Borough business, proof of automobile insurance at statutory limits must be provided. (ACURRENT COPY OF DRIVING RECORD WILL BE REQUIRED UPON REQUEST
)KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 1.
Strong organizational skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with participants, caregivers, and agencies within the community. 2. Knowledge of methods and practices of group organization and instruction used in specialty activities. 3. Must be able to achieve Standard First Aid, Adult and Child CPR, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications as recognized by the American Red Cross (or equivalent) within three (3) months of hire. 4. Ability to address public complaints, media inquiries, and user groups, as well as interact tactfully, courteously, and harmoniously with the general public, private sector businesses, civic organizations, special interest groups, and other government officials in a responsive and professional manner. Works in various recreational facilities and where conditions are pleasant and in the field where conditions are somewhat disagreeable with occasional heat, cold, wet, noise, etc.; up to ½ of time is spent standing or walking; minor accident and health hazards are probable; requires short periods of heavy lifting, pushing or pulling (50+ lbs.). This position falls under the Borough's Blood Borne Pathogen (BBP) Exposure Control Program as it is reasonably anticipated that infrequent exposure to blood or other bodily fluids may occur while performing some job duties.
