Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Certified Recreational Therapist to join our dedicated healthcare team. In this vital role, you will design and implement engaging therapeutic activities that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being for diverse populations, including seniors, individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, and those receiving hospice or palliative care. Your expertise will help enhance quality of life through creative interventions such as music therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, yoga, swimming, equine-assisted activities, and more. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in patients' lives while working in a collaborative and supportive environment. Duties Develop personalized recreational therapy plans based on comprehensive patient assessments and diagnostic evaluations. Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions utilizing techniques like behavioral therapy, mental health counseling, art therapy, music therapy, dance therapy, and yoga to address various needs such as dementia care, PTSD care, autism spectrum disorders, addiction recovery, and geriatrics. Incorporate specialized activities including swimming, horseback riding (equine experience), assisted living programs, hospice care initiatives, and special education activities tailored to each individual's abilities and goals. Conduct ongoing data collection and documentation of patient progress in medical records while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including nurses, social workers, case managers, and medical professionals—to coordinate care plans and facilitate diagnostic evaluations. Manage crisis situations effectively through crisis management techniques and behavioral management strategies to ensure safety and emotional stability. Assist with intake procedures by evaluating patient needs and developing appropriate therapeutic interventions aligned with medical terminology and records standards. Qualifications Certified Recreational Therapist credential from an accredited organization. Proven experience working with individuals with disabilities across settings such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospitals, or community care environments. Strong background in therapeutic modalities including music therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, yoga, equine-assisted activities, and swimming. Knowledge of medical terminology, documentation practices, HIPAA compliance, and medical records management. Experience working with diverse populations including seniors (geriatrics), children (pediatrics), individuals with autism or developmental disabilities, dementia patients, PTSD sufferers, and those in hospice or palliative care. Excellent skills in patient assessment, case management, individual/group counseling and crisis intervention. Ability to engage clients through creative activities such as dancing or art projects while maintaining safety protocols. Familiarity with behavioral health concepts including behavior management strategies and mental health counseling techniques.
