Position Summary Under general supervision of the Associate Dean, the Scene Shop Coordinator is responsible for the operation, maintenance and oversight of the Scene Shop and theatre production spaces. The incumbent provides technical support and guidance to faculty, staff, and students across all LCA units, with primary support for the School of Theatre & Dance. This position works collaboratively with the Costume Shop Supervisor and Prop Shop Coordinator to ensure coordinated production and safe efficient use of resources. The Scene Shop Coordinator serves the needs of the college and assists in the construction, fabrication and rigging of scenery for the School of Theatre and Dance and may serve as deck manager or technical director for LCA Live events or external rental activities at the direction of the operations and events teams. Position Information Scene Shop Coordination Scene Shop Management Oversee and maintain the scene shop for all campus constituents, ensuring safe and efficient operations of facilities, tools, and equipment. Procure materials, track and replenish inventory, and maintain supplies of tools, hardware, consumables and specialized equipment required to support scenic construction and theatre facility maintenance. Maintain organized inventories of stock scenic elements including flats, platforms, draperies, drops, and lumber, steel, muslin and related materials. Manage the rental distribution and tracking of scenic elements and materials for other LCA and campus units such as the BECA Department, the School of Music, and the School of Cinema. Safety Training and Compliance Provide safety orientations and tool-use training for faculty, staff and students across the college ensuring compliance with campus safety standards and industry-standard shop practices. Facilities and Equipment Maintenance Maintain performance spaces and related facilities and services including: Testing, inspecting, adjusting, calibrating and replacing components of wood, metal, plastic, welding, fabric tools (hand and machine), powered by electric, hydraulic and/or pneumatic systems. Maintaining and assisting with stage rigging and counterweight systems, theatrical drapery, seating mechanisms, and related theatre infrastructures. Collaborate with Costume and Prop technicians to maintain specialized tools and equipment across production support units. Support of the Delivery of Curriculum Instructional Support Assist faculty during classes held in the Scene Shop or School of Theatre & Dance performance spaces, supporting students in the safe construction of scenery and scenic elements. Provide safety training and demonstrations on the safe and effective use of tools, machinery, construction methods, and the storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials. Scenic Construction and Technical Support Construct scenery and related structures from wood, metal, plastic, fabric, and other materials using hand tools, power tools and gas and arc welding equipment as needed for School production requirements. Advise faculty, staff and students on scenic design, materials, structure, rigging, movement, and proper usage of scenic elements and equipment. Complete specialized drafting and technical assessments or evaluations of student work, upon request. Scheduling and Production Operations Schedule Scene Shop activities, coordinate space usage with faculty and campus partners, and ensure efficient integration with curricular needs. Load in, install, and rig stage scenery and equipment in theatres to support instructional and production activities. College-Wide Assistance College Technical Support Assist LCA technicians with material management, logistics, and inter-departmental production support across the College of Liberal and Creative Arts Support the LCA Operations and Events teams with the college presentations (LCA Live) and external rental events. Responsibilities may include load-ins and strikes, deck management, and pre-production consultation. Cross-Unit Equipment and Facility Support Assist in maintaining theatrical equipment across units outside of the School of Theatre & Dance such as soft goods in the television studio or the counterweight or rigging system in film/television sound stages. Maintain college-wide forklifts and scissor lifts, and coordinate training for college staff and student operators. Minimum Qualifications Ability to support classroom instruction by performing classroom demonstrations related to production specialty. Ability to work with faculty and provide training and supervision to students involved in productions. Comprehensive knowledge of the methods and problems in multiple production special

Comprehensive knowledge of design theory and principles and how they are executed in various production specialties. Working knowledge of directing and stage management, including the ability to manage staging needs for productions requiring numerous costume and set changes and the ability to manage and coordinate the use of multiple facilities. Thorough and in-depth knowledge of the technical aspects of construction, implementation, and operation of staging materials and effects in the various production specialties, including the ability to work with drawings and plots to assist in their execution. Comprehensive knowledge of safety measures and hazards related to theatre productions. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals at all levels within the organization. Preferred Qualifications Journey level knowledge and skill in the use of all hand, power, and machine tools and equipment for working wood, metal, plastic, and fabric. Advanced skill and knowledge in gas and arc (stick, MIG, TIG) welding of ferrous and non-ferrous metal. Journey level skill and experience in the use and maintenance of stage equipment and theatre systems including rope and wire rope rigging and associated hardware. Knowledge of the requirements pertaining to theatres, places of assembly, and shop/storage facilities contained in the
CALOSHA, CCR
Titles 8, 19, and 24. Three to four years in theatre or related performing arts discipline and/or documented journey level work experience in education or commercial theatre, television, film, or equivalent trade experience.
