Orange Youth Academy in Orlando, Florida, is a secure Youth Academy serving males ages 13 to 17, offering trauma-informed care for mental health and substance abuse needs. The program integrates clinical therapy, education, restorative justice, therapeutic recreation, and life skills development. Youth typically stay based on treatment progress, participating in individual, family, and group therapy; victim impact awareness; pre-vocational preparation; and enrichment activities such as art, music, and recreation. These programs promote pro-social behavior, physical engagement, and reintegration into the community while enhancing coping, communication, and leadership skills. Key Responsibilities Plan, organize, and coordinate structured recreation and leisure activities Use intervention modalities such as creative arts, sports, dance/movement, adventure programming, and leisure education Provide recreational programming during non-traditional hours to promote pro-social behavior Assess youth capabilities, interests, and needs; adjust activities based on progress and goals Consult with clinicians, physicians, and treatment teams to align recreational goals with treatment plans Participate in care planning and team meetings Design instructional strategies and community reintegration activities to build skills and confidence Tailor programs to meet individual youth learning styles, emotional needs, and physical abilities Apply clinical knowledge to support individualized goal achievement Document treatment progress in accordance with plans of care Other Duties Include Participate in team discussions, providing effective input and strategies Attend case conferences and family education meetings Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct at all times Use appropriate teaching methods in all instruction and discharge activities Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications Required:

Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field At least one year of experience in recreational or play therapy Ability to pass a background check and drug screening

Preferred:

Experience working with youth and adolescents in a residential or therapeutic setting Familiarity with group dynamics, experiential education, and Medicaid documentation Physical Demands Must be in good physical health and emotionally stable Able to actively engage in physical recreation with youth Must be able to transport youth or staff as needed Must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state Must pass PAR (Professional Assault Response) evaluation and certification Other Requirements Valid state driver's license Must meet state criminal background check requirements Must meet company auto insurance and driving requirements Apply Today Make a difference with us.
