May 2026 SummaryTo assist staff in providing recreation programs for individuals with disabilities in their communities while promoting a safe and enjoyable recreation experience. Inclusion Aides will work 1:1 with individuals with disabilities of various abilities and ages in the Joliet Park District programs (before/after school program, preschool, summer camp, gymnastics etc.) blending in and working alongside park district staff. The goal of inclusion is to help the registrant participate in the least restrictive environment with peers without disabilities. As an aide, you will assist one or more individual(s) who has requested special assistance to participate in the program in which they registered. This involves but is not limited to; assisting the individuals with social skills, personal care needs, understanding and following rules and directions and/or modifying an activity so they can participate. Essential DutiesReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential duties.

Support and assist individuals with disabilities participating in local park district programsDemonstrate dependability, promptness, flexibility, and punctualityMaintain effective communication with supervisors, staff, participants, and familiesDirectly responsible for the safety and supervision of participantsCommunicate effectively to participants and be able to explain based on each childs development.

Participate and monitor participants in various programming, including, but not limited to swimming in the pool.

Promote and encourage participation in daily activities. Adapting activities to the needs of the individual with special needs. Assist the individual with understanding and following rules and directions.

Maintain a positive environment.

Follow SRJC/Joliet Park District policies, rules, and safety regulationsUse appropriate and positive discipline when necessary for participantsDocument and communicate any issues that are occurring with participants, families, or staffAttend staff meetings as requiredHoursPart time. May include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Supervisory responsibilitiesParticipants in the Joliet Park District programsWork environmentThis job will be performed indoors in a temperature controlled setting. At times, job tasks will include participating outdoors with varying weather conditions. Work environment may be loud at times.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, bend, kneel, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear; tasted and smell; and carry materials. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
