Our Bridge Housing Campus (BHC) is a 38-resident, trauma-informed transitional housing program for adult men 28 and older — providing a structured, community-centered environment as residents work toward permanent housing, recovery, and self-sufficiency. The average stay is five to six months, organized into five phases of progressive responsibility, independence, and community reintegration. BHC's three core operating drivers are Recovery, Mental Health, and Community. Every role at BHC is designed to serve at least one of these drivers and to work in coordinated partnership with the others. Position Summary Join us as a Recreational Therapist at Bridge Housing Campus and use evidence-based therapeutic recreation as a clinical intervention to strengthen recovery, rebuild social and community connections, and support residents' progression through BHC's five phases. Working at the intersection of Recovery, Mental Health, and Community — BHC's three core drivers — the Recreational Therapist develops and delivers structured programming that helps residents build the leisure skills, self-confidence, and community ties needed to sustain housing and sobriety after graduation. This is a part-time clinical role (approximately 20 hours/week) reporting to the Clinical Director and operating as an integrated member of BHC's care team. The Recreational Therapist participates in treatment planning and team reviews and documents resident progress in CaseWorthy. Key Responsibilities Assessment and Care Planning
- Conduct initial and ongoing recreational therapy assessments for each resident; identify leisure interests, barriers, and recovery-relevant goals
- Integrate assessment findings into the resident's Individualized Care Plan (ICP) in collaboration with the assigned Licensed Caseworker — specifically within the Recovery & Wellness and Community Engagement/Housing domains Therapeutic Programming
- Design and deliver structured therapeutic recreation groups at a minimum of three sessions per week, targeting core outcomes: recovery wellness, social skill-building, healthy leisure alternatives, stress management, and community reintegration
- Develop a leisure education curriculum that helps residents identify sustainable, affordable community activities and builds the social networks needed to maintain sobriety after leaving BHC
- Lead guided fitness programming using BHC's on-site gymnasium and fitness resources; adapt for residents with physical limitations or health conditions in coordination with CHASS clinical staff
- Facilitate expressive arts programming (music, creative writing, visual arts) as a therapeutic modality — including coordination with existing BHC partners such as Passenger Recovery and MSU Community School of Music - Detroit Community Integration
- Plan and lead supervised community outings as phase-transition milestones, primarily for Phase 3 (Empowerment/Skill Building) and Phase 4 (Consistency/Commitment) residents, in coordination with the Residential Coordinator on duty
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners — parks and recreation programs, arts organizations, recovery community organizations — to develop a menu of off-campus programming options for residents across phases
- Assist Phase 1 residents (closed-campus) with engagement through on-site programming adapted to early-stabilization needs Clinical Collaboration and Documentation
- Participate in weekly care team meetings; contribute the recreational therapy perspective on resident engagement, phase readiness, and discharge planning
- Document resident participation, progress notes, and clinical observations in CaseWorthy within required timeframes
- Adapt programming in response to residents' evolving clinical status, in consultation with the Clinical Director or Licensed Caseworker
- Contribute to a positive, accountable, and supportive team environment grounded in professionalism and respect Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or a closely related field
- CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) certification, or CTRS-eligible with certification obtained within six months of hire

- Experience working with adults in recovery, residential treatment, behavioral health, or transitional housing settings
- Strong organizational, documentation, communication, and time-management skills
- Ability to build rapport, maintain boundaries, and work effectively as part of a team Preferred
- Knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic recreation practices for substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health conditions
- Familiarity with Detroit-area recreation resources, community organizations, and recovery community organizations (RCOs)
