Job Description
The Regional Ombudsman performs state-mandated roles for residents in long-term care facilities throughout the region as head of the state-created Office of Regional Long-Term Care Ombudsman. The Ombudsman's job duties will include investigating and resolving complaints generated by patients or patients' families residing in long- term care facilities within the region, along with facilitating, mediating, or reconciling differences between the facility and patient. They may refer unresolved complaints to the appropriate licensure agency. The Ombudsman will visit all long-term care facilities regularly.
Example of Duties:
Receives complaints filed by residents, families of residents, or others on behalf of residents in long-term care facilities within the region Attempts to resolve complaints through negotiation, facilitation, or mediation techniques and processes Settles and closes successful attempts and refers unsuccessful attempts to the appropriate licensure agency; Performs regular visitation with all long-term care facilities in the region, observing resident care, records, and reviews findings with care facility management and, in extreme cases, refers cases of discovered or complaints of abuse, neglect, or exploitation to county adult protective services Maintain a confidential record of specific activity, report general activity through reports, and record keeping. Assists the public on the long-term care systems in general and regional providers specifically, and the Ombudsman program. Promotes community involvement with long-term care facilities and their residents by working with and providing assistance to volunteer groups and advisory committees for each facility; Provides legislation and regulations requirements to these volunteer groups and committees Prepares and submits various statistical and administrative reports regularly to state agencies and COG boards. Works with and assists various local community groups in establishing and maintaining working relationships with long-term care facilities Trains or assists in training long-term care facility staff in residents' rights. Additional job duties will be assigned as needed.Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in human services or a related field. Experience in providing services to the aging or residents in long-term care facilities. An equivalent in education and experience is accepted.Supplemental Information:
The position does require travel and field work. This position will require the employee to hold the NC State Long-Term Ombudsman program certificate. How toApply:
