Orchard Park Assisted Living Position Overview:
The Activities Director is responsible for leading and managing the entire activities department at Orchard Park Assisted Living. This includes developing and implementing a dynamic and engaging program of recreational, educational, and social activities that meet the physical, emotional, and cognitive needs of residents. The Activities Director will supervise the Activities Coordinator and any Activity Aides, providing leadership, support, and accountability to ensure a high standard of resident engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Department Leadership & Oversight Supervise and support the Activities Coordinator and Activity Aides, ensuring consistent performance and adherence to expectations. Provide training, mentorship, and regular feedback to activities staff. Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of the monthly activities calendar. Ensure compliance with facility policies and state/federal regulations. Program Development & Innovation Design and oversee a wide variety of activities and programs that promote wellness, creativity, social connection, and personal fulfillment. Continuously evaluate the effectiveness and relevance of current programs and make adjustments as needed. Implement innovative ideas that enhance resident quality of life and participation. Resident Engagement and Communication Collaborate with residents and families to gather feedback and input on desired activities. Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where all residents feel encouraged to participate. Oversee communication materials related to activities, including flyers, calendars, and newsletters. Event and Activity Supervision Plan and lead larger-scale facility events, outings, and holiday celebrations. Coordinate entertainment vendors, volunteers, and outside partners when applicable. Ensure proper staffing and preparation for all major events. Administrative Duties Manage department budget, supply orders, and inventory for activities. Maintain accurate documentation of attendance and participation. Conduct interviews for potential activities staff (e.g., Activities Coordinator, Activity Aides), and make hiring recommendations. Prepare performance evaluations and disciplinary documentation for activities staff as needed. Participate in leadership meetings and contribute to overall facility improvement initiatives.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in senior living, recreational programming, or activity planning. Prior leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred. Strong understanding of the social, cognitive, and physical needs of seniors. Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills. Proficiency in scheduling, documentation, and basic budgeting. Ability to inspire and lead a small team. Must pass a background check.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands listed below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer and telephone. Occasionally lift and/or move materials and equipment, such as decorations or supplies for programs, up to 25 pounds. Required to move around the facility to attend meetings, events, and activities. May work in a standing or seated position for extended periods. May work in an environment with varying noise levels, including loud music or group activities. Schedule Requirements:
Primary schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Open availability during these hours is required. Must be available to work holidays as needed. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required for resident events, special programs, or department needs. Must be able to adjust work hours occasionally to meet the needs of the residents and the community.
