Job Description
Overview We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Recreation Director to lead engaging activities and programs that enhance the quality of life for residents in a senior living community. This energetic role involves designing, organizing, and supervising a diverse range of recreational activities tailored to meet the unique needs of older adults, including those with memory care requirements such as Alzheimer's and dementia. The Recreation Director will foster a vibrant community atmosphere, promote social interaction, and support residents' physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being through innovative programming. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors while utilizing your expertise in recreation, caregiving, and senior care. Responsibilities Develop and implement a comprehensive calendar of recreational activities that cater to residents' interests, abilities, and health conditions, including assisted living and long-term care settings. Coordinate special events, outings, and therapeutic activities that promote socialization, cognitive stimulation, and physical activity. Collaborate with nursing staff, caregivers, and family members to customize programs for residents with Alzheimer's, dementia, or other memory impairments. Lead recreational therapy sessions focused on enhancing residents' quality of life through engaging exercises and social interactions. Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as mobility, grooming, and other personal care tasks during activities when needed. Manage scheduling for activities and staff coverage to ensure consistent program delivery while maintaining flexibility for individual needs. Foster an inclusive environment by working with individuals with disabilities or special needs to ensure they participate fully in community programs. Requirements Proven experience in event planning within senior care settings such as assisted living or nursing homes. Strong background in recreational therapy, memory care, or senior care environments with knowledge of Alzheimer's and dementia care best practices. Experience working with individuals with disabilities or those requiring specialized caregiving support. Excellent communication skills to effectively engage residents, families, staff, and community partners. Ability to manage multiple schedules efficiently while adapting to changing resident needs. Knowledge of aging issues counseling and social work principles related to elder populations. Demonstrated commitment to enhancing the well-being of seniors through creative programming and compassionate caregiving.
