Job Overview:
The Recreation Therapist collaborates with the Manager of Community Programs to coordinate and instruct adapted recreation programs for children with special needs, including aquatics, martial arts, and seasonal camps. You will play a vital role in assessing patient needs, planning specialized programs, and working with the foundation to secure funding for essential community services. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to serve as a community liaison, implementing life-changing activities that match the developmental levels and interests of the pediatric population.
Qualifications:
Required:
NCTRC Certification (National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification) Bachelors degree with a concentration in Recreational Therapy or Therapeutic Recreation AHA BLS Provider Certification Valid Driver's License Completion of a pediatric affiliation or professional work experience with pediatrics Strong ability to plan activities and adapt environments for various disabling conditions Physical stamina to lift, push, and pull participants and perform therapeutic handling Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and standard PC use
Preferred:
Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or Aquatics Instructor Certification Fluency in Spanish Experience in grant/donation funding coordination Scheduling Requirements Per Diem (Day)
Essential Functions:
Develop, coordinate, and implement developmentally appropriate programming for various age and diagnostic groups Perform functional assessments to determine necessary adaptations for successful program participation Plan, set up, and instruct classes including aquatics, martial arts, and seasonal camps Supervise and effectively utilize volunteers and student interns Serve as a liaison to the community and foundation to assess needs and secure grant/donation funding Complete all documentation, including functional and measurable goals, according to hospital policy Maintain recreation areas, equipment, and supplies in a safe and efficient manner Act as Camp Director in the absence of the
