Job Description
The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description As a Recreation Therapist, you will develop, implement, and deliver recreation therapy services including:
If appointed, you may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider; obtain and provide to your employer a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number issued by the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES); and otherwise actively participate to the degree necessary to allow for your services to be billed through Medicare and Medicaid. If you are appointed and are required to become a Medicare Provider and lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment. Some positions may require additional credentials or a background check to verify your identity.
- Modifying activities based on the individuals' physical activity and/or rehabilitative needs
- Observing and recording individuals' progress, responses, and behaviors
- Maintaining records and documentation in accordance with program standards and requirements
- Designing and administering individual and group programs The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State service may be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (NY HELPS) program if they have:
- Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation; or
- A bachelor's degree in Recreation, Physical Education or Adaptive Physical Education and 1 year of experience in planning and administering a therapeutic recreation program which involved developing and coordinating therapeutic recreational activities for geriatric patients/residents, individuals with developmental disabilities, individuals with psychiatric disabilities, individuals that are physically challenged, or individuals in treatment for chemical dependency; or• Current credentials as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) issued by the National Council For Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC); OR• Current licensure by NYS as a Recreation TherapistORCandidates from outside or within State service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on the current Recreation Therapist eligible list.
