Job Summary The ideal Decedent Affairs Coordinator is a highly organized and compassionate professional who excels in communication and coordination, particularly in sensitive situations involving grieving families. This individual can effectively manage complex, time-sensitive workflows related to decedent management. They demonstrate strong emotional intelligence, professionalism, and attention to detail. Job Duties Serves as the primary point of contact for all matters related to deceased patients within the healthcare facility. This role ensures compassionate, timely, and compliant management of decedent-related processes, including documentation, communication with families, coordination with funeral homes, and adherence to legal and regulatory requirements. Provides support to clinical teams, assists families during difficult transitions, and maintains accurate records throughout the decedent management process. Coordinate all activities following a patient's death, including verification procedures and notification of appropriate internal departments. Arrange for the timely release and transportation of decedents to funeral homes or other designated facilities. Ensure proper identification, handling, and storage of remains according to hospital policy and regulatory standards. Oversee the management of personal belongings and valuables, ensuring accurate documentation and release to appropriate individuals. Provide emotional support, clear communication, and culturally sensitive assistance during times of grief. Coordinate and verify the timely completion and filing of death certificates with responsible parties Ensure adherence to state and federal guidelines regarding unclaimed bodies, autopsies, organ donation protocols, and reporting obligations. Facilitate communication with funeral homes, medical examiners, law enforcement, and organ procurement organizations. Maintain accurate accounts of decedent affairs.
