Job Description
Scheduled Hours 37.5 Position Summary This position coordinates administrative and academic functions of the Anthropology undergraduate program of 400-500 students (45%). It also administratively manages the Medicine and Society Program (35%) and acts as Study Abroad Coordinator for the Department (20%).
Anthropology Undergraduate Academic Issues Meet and pre-advise all Anthropology majors and minors; assign advisors. Serve as member of the Department undergraduate curriculum committee. Maintain academic records and audit all graduating seniors for completion of the major. Manage student records in Workday. Compile data for reports related to assessments and evaluation of students and the Department. Assist Director of Undergraduate Studies and Chair with curricular additions to major and minor. Advise Department undergraduate curriculum committee on proposed policy changes. Maintain and grow alumni database and communicate with alumni of Department. Solicit and assign undergraduate Assistants in Instruction to courses. Manage undergraduate internships. Support students and faculty on major/minor requirements and program completion. Train new faculty on major/minor requirements and student advising. Undergraduate Bulletin updates. Develop and implement new strategies for engaging with undergraduate population. Write and disseminate weekly undergraduate news Digest. Coordinate Department graduation ceremony including soliciting award nominations and managing event. Meet with prospective undergraduates and their parents to explain Anthropology program. Act as staff advisor for department's chapter of Lambda Alpha, the Anthropology National Honor Society. Medicine and Society Program, Department of Anthropology With Director, select yearly cohort of 25 students. Implement and supervise students in Senior Peer Mentor Program for incoming freshman cohort. Organize and implement all Medicine and Society events and programs including annual Keynote speaker. Create and maintain student and alumni database and files. Interview students and act as resource for internship placement; monitor students, and liaise with supervisors. Support Director with special projects. Supports students at all levels. Audit students for graduating, and in consultation with Director, make decisions about expulsion from program. Liaise with other university entities, including Ampersand Programs, First Year Programs, Pre-med programs, Legal Department. Meet with prospective Medicine and Society students and families and act as ambassador for program. Assist Director with yearly research funding recipients. Design and order all Medicine & Society merchandise. Attend Community Council Liaisons committee meetings, liaise with Gephardt Institute and Community Service Office. Study Abroad Coordinator, Department of Anthropology Meet with students interested in studying abroad to navigate program options and determine best fit. Decide which courses at various study abroad institutions will count toward Anthropology major/minor. Advise student study abroad applicants on approved courses. Troubleshoot course enrollment problems before and during abroad semester. Write letters of support for students applying to non-traditional programs when necessary. Coordinate with Overseas Office on non-traditional program approvals. Review transcripts, portfolio, and student experience upon student return to WU. Transfer credits to Anthropology from abroad program. Assess programs for continued department approval and review new programs. Coordinate approval of transfer credits for Anthropology majors and minors. Perform other duties as assigned.
