  • Modifying activities based on the individuals' physical activity and/or rehabilitative needs
  • Observing and recording individuals' progress, responses, and behaviors
  • Maintaining records and documentation in accordance with program standards and requirements
  • Designing and administering individual and group programs Minimum QualificationsCandidates from outside or within State service may be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (NY HELPS) program if they have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation; or
  • A bachelor's degree in Recreation, Physical Education or Adaptive Physical Education and 1 year of experience in planning and administering a therapeutic recreation program which involved developing and coordinating therapeutic recreational activities for geriatric patients/residents, individuals with developmental disabilities, individuals with psychiatric disabilities, individuals that are physically challenged, or individuals in treatment for chemical dependency; or • Current credentials as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) issued by the National Council For Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC); OR • Current licensure by NYS as a Creative Arts Therapist OR Candidates from outside or within State service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on the current Recreation Therapist eligible list.
OR Candidates from within State service may be considered for transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Kennedy Bridge to MPC's campus on Randall's Island Background checks will be required. This position is eligible for a Mid-Hudson adjustment of $2,000.
