Job Description:

Help to develop leisure time in ways that enhance health, independence, and well-being. Recreational therapy is a prescribed use of recreational and other activities as a treatment intervention to improve functional living competence, with the goal of restoring, remedying, or habilitating improvement in functioning and independence, while reducing or eliminating the effects of an illness or a disability. Recreational Therapy can assist with integrating into the community and reducing dependency upon others to monitor and intervene in social community settings. Recreational therapy shall also encourage the improvement of communication skills, self-esteem/self-confidence, and promote healthier relationships. Recreational Therapy provides opportunities to move from isolation into active participation through an increase in verbal and nonverbal communication, social expression, behavioral and social functioning, and self-awareness with the goal of reducing the consumer's maladaptive behaviors, anxiety, and stress.

Qualifications:

A Recreational Therapy provider must be a licensed professional, with documented training and experience relative to the specific service provided. Clinical Social Worker; Professional Counselor; Marriage and Family Therapist; Drama Therapist; Registered Nurse; Vocational Nurse; Physical Therapist; Occupational Therapist; or Dietitian; or Certified by the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC); or Certified as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Texas (TRS/TXC) by Consortium for Therapeutic Recreation/Activities Certification, Inc. (CTRAC).

Compensation & Details:

Pay is for direct client contact hours only. No mileage reimbursement . Subcontractors file a 1099 . Flexible schedule with after-school and weekend hours.
