Position Overview:
•We are currently seeking a compassionate and skilled Recreational Therapist to join our team. As a Recreational Therapist specializing in developmental disabilities, you will play a key role in designing and implementing therapeutic recreation programs, facilitating leisure activities, and promoting socialization and community integration for our clients. This position is approximately a 50/50% home/travel position. •
Responsibilities:
•Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify clients' strengths, challenges, and individualized goals. Plan and facilitate group recreational activities, including arts and crafts, sports, music therapy, outdoor adventures, and community outings. Assess clients' leisure skills, preferences, and goals through observation, interviews, and standardized assessments. Provide support and adaptive techniques to enable clients to participate in recreational activities independently and successfully. Develop and implement individualized recreational therapy plans tailored to the unique needs, interests, and abilities of clients with developmental disabilities. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including Speech Therapists, Behavior Analysts, Physical Therapists, and Occupational Therapists, to ensure holistic and coordinated care. Provide indirect therapy services to clients in various settings, including homes, schools, and community-based programs. Monitor clients' progress, adjust intervention strategies as needed, and document outcomes in accordance with regulatory standards. Educate clients, families, and caregivers on the benefits of recreational therapy and provide resources for continued engagement in leisure activities outside of therapy sessions. Document clients' progress, outcomes, and participation in recreational therapy sessions, in accordance with regulatory standards. •
Qualifications:
•Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certified by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC). Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities in a recreational therapy setting. Strong assessment, planning, and implementation skills for designing therapeutic recreation programs. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and group facilitation skills. Ability to adapt activities and interventions to meet the diverse needs and abilities of clients. Commitment to promoting inclusion, empowerment, and independence through recreational therapy. Must be able to pass a background check, Virginia Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check, and a List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE) check. Must be able to create own work schedule, while meeting job requirements. •
