- Part-time JOB The Adaptive Recreation Aide assists individuals with disabilities in a variety of recreation programs for all ages such as art and enrichment, outdoor, sports, fitness, and aquatic activities.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES 1.
Provide services directly and indirectly to a variety of individuals with cognitive, behavioral, and physical disabilities2. Adapt recreation activities to the needs of the participant3. Assist instructors with developing, prepping, and setting up class materials including sports, arts and crafts, and social events4. Ensure a safe and inclusive environment by observing, inspecting, and monitoring program areas and equipment5. Advise or guide staff to support the participant and facilitate conversations to ensure the participant has the best possible experience6. Communicate with participants, families, and caregivers to support engagement7. Maintains adaptive equipment8. Reports participant progress or concerns to supervisors9. Record attendance, track participant progress, and report incidents or behavioral concerns to supervisorsSUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Required Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAbility to work harmoniously in a group and to interact with the participants of all ages in a positive and courteous mannerAbility to communicate in a concise and articulate manner both orally and in writingAbility to accept supervision and to communicate effectively with participants and supervisorsPossess a flexible, positive attitude, enthusiasm and excellent problem-solving skills preferred; has a positive, patient, and supportive attitude towards people with disabilities Ability to work indoors or outdoorsAbility to work safelyAbility to react quickly to safety situationsThis is a non-smoking work environment. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors at a Park District, public, or private facility. Though most programs are held during the day, some programs may meet in the evenings and/or overnight. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
