Director of Community Education and Recreation Job Description
JOB GOAL
The foundational purpose of the Director of Community Education and Recreation is to provide programs, classes, and activities that enhance the learning, growth and development of community members of all ages. The director will set the mission of Community Education and Recreation. The director shall administer Community Education and Recreation according to the policies of the school board and the administrative directive of the superintendent. Staff development supervision/evaluation, personnel services, community collaborations, budget development, and long-range planning are functions of the director's role ( a complete job description is below ).

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college university. A variety of areas of studies would be appropriate, including but not limited to: public administration, educational leadership, program management, recreational management, or behavior sciences. Prefer 2-3 years experience in program development and management The ideal Candidate will have: Programming experience, especially in wellness initiatives Extensive work extensively with children of all ages Experience with creating and managing a budget Strong customer service/managerial skills Familiarity with the Plymouth area/community

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Personnel Management and Development:
Participates in the screening, selection, and placement of staff members both within. Community Education and Recreation and within the district if asked by the superintendent. Provides on-boarding for new staff in conjunction with the District's program. Provides a framework in which staff can work cooperatively and share in decision-making. Provides opportunities for and encourages staff to participate in professional development. Conducts formal and informal observations and evaluations of staff. Recognizes achievements and efforts of staff. Is able to handle conflict resolution. Establishes and maintains open lines of communication and cooperative relationships with other staff members, administrators, students, parents, and the general public. Attends staff, department, district and all other meetings called by administrators as related to Community Education and Recreation.
Programming:
Develops and/or approves the schedule of community education and recreation opportunities and assignment of staff. Accommodates individual differences of all within the community, including those with special needs and disabilities, all ages and demographics. Develops classes and programs for all ages both educational and wellness related Evaluates classes and programs for their effectiveness and financial feasibility Solicits new instructors and class opportunities Adapts current wellness research into appropriate programming. Promotes community education and recreation programming to staff, families, and the community at large.
Youth Program Management:
Manages childcare program serving ages 6 weeks to 4th grade Manages a Youth Center serving grades 5-8 Provides direction for the middle school athletics/intramurals Provides Family and Youth programming Participates in and conducts parent/caregiver meetings in coordination with the proper community education and recreation staff ensuring confidentiality and focusing on the best interests of the child. Communicates expectations regarding student behavior to students, staff, and parents. Implements appropriate disciplinary measures. Counsels with staff to address individual student behavior problems. Assists with staffing and operational support within childcare and youth center programs to maintain high-quality service delivery.
Budgeting and Financial Management:
Develops and administers the community education and recreation budget. Reviews the budget throughout the fiscal year on incoming revenue and outgoing expenses. Make adjustments when necessary. Approves all requisitions in accordance with school board policy. Is responsible for purchasing and maintaining inventory for community education and recreation programs/activities. Contacts participants and childcare families with past due balances
Community Collaboration:
Acts as an ambassador for the school district Bridges the community and school by increasing citizen engagement and awareness of school, community education and recreation and other community programs Provides opportunities for two-way communication between the school and the community. Disseminates information of interest to the community through various media. Collaborates with community partner organizations to meet the needs of the community.
School District Collaboration:
Serves as a member of the district leadership team Serves as a member of the district facility sub committee Attends Board of Education and board committee meetings as requested by the superintendent Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of district Key Performance Indicators set by the School Board. Supports and provides staff wellness initiatives Communicates to district staff the expectation of community use of school facilities Coordinates with staff regarding use of shared classroom space
Facilities Management:
Coordinates and maintains the facility management system Provides updates and training for staff and community on use of the facility management system Administers expectations, fees and procedures for community facility use set by the school board. Administers community use of facilities according to the policies of the Board of Education and the directives of the superintendent. Emphasizes proper care and efficient use of school facilities and other school property. Coordinates with custodians, technology staff, and other school staff to support facility use. Provides on-call assistance for facility use outside of school hours.
Additional Duties:
Maintains schedule flexibility, including the ability to work early or late as needed to ensure adequate program coverage Creates and shares vision to achieve goals in a collaborative environment motivating and inspiring others to act. Supervises the maintenance of appropriate records relating to program participation, enrollment trends, community needs and collaborative efforts. Performs other duties as directed by the superintendent
Pay:
$52,000.00 - $76,000.00 per year
