RESPONSIBILITIES
Deliver comprehensive nursing care using the nursing process and evidence-based practices. Develop and revise patient care plans based on ongoing assessment and patient/family input. Perform admission assessments, skin assessments, and regular documentation of patient conditions. Administer medications, IVs, and perform specialized procedures such as wound care, catheterization, and post-operative support. Respond appropriately to patient status changes and coordinate care with physicians and support staff. Supervise and delegate tasks to Certified Nurse Assistants and other support staff. Function as charge nurse as assigned and support the orientation of new staff and student nurses. Support safety initiatives, infection control protocols, and hospital quality improvement activities.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
An active Registered Nurse license with the State of Alaska is required. Current BLS and ACLS certifications. PALS required within 6 months (specialty certifications required for OB/ICU roles). At least one year of experience in an acute care or medical-surgical unit preferred (or willingness to train). Strong communication, documentation, and critical thinking skills. Ability to manage rapidly changing patient conditions and emergency situations effectively. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and charting systems. Leadership capabilities to function as a charge nurse or mentor when needed.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform moderate physical activity including walking, standing, and sitting.
ENVIRONMENT
The South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22-bed Acute Care Critical Access Hospital and 28-bed Long Term Care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula in South-Central Alaska. The 22-bed Acute Care department includes 2 ICU beds. Nurses experience a close-knit, team-based environment with the flexibility to float between units as needed. Due to the nature of the work, there is exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and potential for needle-stick injuries—strict adherence to safety protocols is essential.
