Job Description

Position Overview A California-based law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney with 3-5 years of experience to join its Land Use & Environmental practice. This opportunity offers the chance to work on complex and high-visibility development matters involving both public and private sector projects throughout California. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in land use and environmental law, particularly with California regulatory and entitlement processes. This role works closely with a collaborative legal team advising clients on significant projects impacting communities and infrastructure statewide. Responsibilities Advise clients on land use entitlements and development approvals throughout California Counsel clients on regulatory permitting matters and environmental review requirements Handle matters related to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Research and analyze planning, zoning, and land use regulations Draft legal memoranda, correspondence, and project-related documents Collaborate with attorneys and clients on large-scale development initiatives Manage multiple assignments and deadlines in a fast-paced legal environment Support land use litigation matters as needed Required Qualifications J.D. from an accredited law school Active California Bar membership in good standing 3-5 years of relevant legal experience in land use and environmental law Strong working knowledge of: California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Planning and zoning regulations California land use entitlement and permitting processes Excellent legal research and writing abilities Strong oral advocacy and client communication skills Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively Proven success working collaboratively within a legal team Preferred Qualifications Experience handling land use litigation matters Background supporting sophisticated development projects involving public or private entities Familiarity with high-profile California development and infrastructure projects Key Skills Required CEQA and environmental compliance Land use entitlements and permitting Legal research and writing Advocacy and client counseling Project prioritization and collaboration Benefits Competitive health insurance options 401(k) with partial employer match Profit-sharing opportunities Reasonable billable hours expectations Annual bonus opportunities tied to performance and billable hours Why This Location? $82,548.76 - $99,413.55 per year
