Advanced Practice Student, CNS Track, Pediatric Acute Care Department:
Advance Practice Provider Pediatrics Job Description:
This position is intended for those who are completing requirements for a Master's Degree in Nursing in a Clinical Nurse Specialist Track. The OU Health Clinical Nurse Specialist Intern Program offers an opportunity to gain additional exposure to the clinical areas and multidisciplinary teams, for a target group of patients, to best prepare them for the transition to practice in a traditional Clinical Nurse Specialist role. The program facilitates direct exposure to practicing Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physician colleagues, and leadership individuals, with the aim of providing learning opportunities that complement the formal education content. Essential Responsibilities Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position. Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position. Performs duties within scope of an experienced Registered Nurse (RN). Performs as a learning clinical expert in evidence-based practice within specific patient population. Supports and/or conducts nursing research to further the body of evidence-based nursing practice. Supports, designs, implements and/or evaluates patient specific and/or population-based programs of care for assigned patient population in collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team. Provides leadership in advancing the practice of nursing within the student role. Develops and implements innovative alternative solutions that address system problems or patient care issues in collaboration with the services interdisciplinary team and any additional CNS that support the service line. Serves as a change agent through individual and team coaching and participation in committees, task forces and projects system-wide.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education Requirements Bachelor's of Science in Nursing required. Currently enrolled and completing requirements through an approved school of nursing for a Master's Degree in Nursing, Clinical Nurse Specialist program Experience Requirements 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in Patient Care. License/Certification/Registration Requirements Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact RN License (eNLC). Upon graduation, certification recognized by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing to be licensed as an Advance Practice Registered Nurse must be acquired within 90 days. If the incumbent does not achieve the required education and certification (within 90 days), the incumbent may be considered for another position. Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire. Knowledge/Skills/Ability Requirements Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques and procedures. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques. Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees. Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
