The Vascular Access/PICC Registered Nurse is a specialized clinical nurse responsible for the assessment, insertion, maintenance, and removal of vascular access devices, including peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs), midlines, and peripheral IVs. This role supports safe, timely, and evidence-based vascular access services across inpatient and outpatient settings, serving as a clinical expert and resource to interdisciplinary teams. 1. Performs comprehensive patient assessments to determine appropriate vascular access device selection based on clinical indications, therapy duration, and patient condition. 2. Performs vascular access procedures
  • including but not limited to PICC placement, midline catheter insertion, and ultrasound-guided peripheral IV access-s using aseptic technique and evidence-based practice.
3. Verifies catheter tip placement per organizational policy (e.g., ECG-based technology, radiographic confirmation). 4. Provides ongoing care, troubleshooting, dressing changes, and maintenance of vascular access devices. 5. Educates patients, families, and staff on vascular access care, infection prevention, and device management. 6. Collaborates with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, and nursing staff to optimize vascular access outcomes. 7. Documents procedures, assessments, and patient education accurately in the electronic health record. 8. Participates in performance improvement initiatives related to CLABSI prevention, patient safety, and quality outcomes. 9. Serves as a clinical consultant for difficult access cases and vascular access-related complications. 10. Adheres to all regulatory, accreditation, and facility policies, including infection control and safety standards.
What You Will Need:
Licenses / Certifications /
Registrations:
Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Alabama credentialed from the Alabama Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Advanced Life Support obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted. BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
Minimum Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Alabama. Minimum of 2 years of acute care nursing experience (ICU, ED, or medical-surgical preferred).
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in vascular access or PICC line insertion, Certification such as VA-BC™ (Vascular Access
  • Board Certified) or CRNI®, Proficiency with ultrasound-guided vascular access.
