Salary Range:
$70,000.00 - $79,500.00 USD annually As part of Arizona State University's charter to provide access and excellence, ASU Preparatory Academy (ASU Prep) shares this commitment by demonstrating all students can achieve at the highest levels, regardless of their background. To scale our current impact, ASU Prep is advancing a major expansion program taking fundamental responsibility for the communities we serve. Provide support to learning by promoting the health, well-being, and safety of students and staff. Work collaboratively with school campuses, district staff, and community professionals to meet health care needs of students in a school setting. As the Lead Nurse, you will support the daily needs of all immersion campuses, ensure all records are maintained accurately, and conduct trainings as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in nursing. Current Arizona Registered Nurse (RN) License. Two (2) years clinical experience (pediatrics preferred). Three (3) years' experience in working in the front office of a school and working with student information management systems. At least one (1) year of experience in a leadership position. Current Adult and Child Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Active AZ Department of Public Safety (DPS) IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate Health Services programs within the assigned ASU Prep schools (Downtown Phoenix, Pilgrim Rest, South, and Casa Grande, and Polytechnic). Supervise Health Assistants at Phoenix, Pilgrim Rest, South, and Casa Grande Schools Evaluate Health Assistants at Phoenix, Pilgrim Rest, South, and Casa Grande Schools Rotate on campus health office support in collaboration with school principals. Respond to health emergencies on assigned campuses. Maintain records of who has attended mandatory training. Maintain knowledge of State health-related laws and protocols and inform health staff of any changes or additions. Maintain documentation of health office procedures. Cover for health assistants as needed. Support training needs and ongoing administrative duties for all ASU Prep AZ campuses. Collaborate with other ASU Prep RNs and Health Assistants on continued professional learning and other department needs. Lead health services team meetings in collaboration with the Director of ESS. Provide direct nursing care by administering first aid, emergency care, medication administration and specialized medical procedures to ill and/or medically fragile students, and students with mental health needs according to district policies and protocols. Prepares portable ice packs. Ensures medications are secured in a locked cabinet. Administers daily prescription and over-the-counter medications to students in accordance with board policy under the supervision of the school administrator and maintains accurate records of medication given. Arranges parent conferences for special health needs and directs parents in available community resources. Train principal designees to administer medications, procedures, and emergency treatments and procedures as appropriate. Assess student safety, abuse, and health related issues, identifying problems, referring as appropriate and complying with legal requirements. Document accurately. Follow Arizona State Laws, district policies and protocols related to communicable disease, immunizations, mandated hearing and vision screening and child abuse. Refer as appropriate. Submit required reports. Supervise and administer mandated vision and hearing screenings, referrals and assistance with follow-up care. Submit required reports. Provide education and training related to acute and chronic illness and health related topics. Act as a resource for students, parents/guardians and staff. Develop individualized care plans and emergency plans for students with health care needs, maintaining contact with staff, parents/guardians and /or medical providers to implement health care directions and notify of changes in student health in the school setting. Identify health and safety concerns in the school environment and promote a nurturing school environment. Maintain confidential student health information and records. Maintain a health office, supplies and equipment. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of Immunization requirements according to Arizona State Law. Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to emergency situations. Ability to work autonomously, making sound decisions while under pressure in a variety of situations. Communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) with students, parents/guardians, staff and outside agencies. Proficient in the use of a computer and basic software applications. Ability to coordinate activities with related and specialist staff. Knowledge of the procedures, practices, materials, and equipment required to provide appropriate learning experiences for students to whom assigned. Demonstrates ability to build good working relationships with colleagues, students and families through professional interaction. Ability to articulate, represent professional demeanor and ability to take initiative.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. such as boxes, supplies, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
